The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.
The news follows a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Here is the complete message from Ismailer's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to heart and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our fans.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After some time of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in greeting Ben next week. We are all excited to persist observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.

"Challenge the rivals with new abilities, risks, and tests that shift every round. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."
Project Ethos does not have an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as production continues.
